ACT, Portugal’s national labor authority, needed a mobile platform to extend its public service to where people are—on their phones. The objective: make labor law tools and information accessible, actionable, and human. From compensation simulators to inspection requests, the app had to serve workers with clarity and reliability, while staying synced with ACT’s internal systems.

We designed and developed a user-centered app focused on clarity, utility, and emotional tone. Legal content can feel heavy—so we introduced animations and soft UI cues to lighten the experience. Beyond tools and legislation, the app promotes wellbeing too, with optional reminders to hydrate and take breaks throughout the day.
Functionally, the app connects directly to ACT’s operational ecosystem. Form submissions sync with ACT’s SharePoint intranet, giving inspectors real-time access to citizen-generated reports and requests. Every interaction is designed to serve both users and internal teams.

The new way to contact the labor regulator.
The ACT app empowers Portuguese workers with tools, information, and direct access to their labor authority—all in one simple, intuitive mobile platform.
Key features:
- Termination compensation simulator
- Vacation and absence calculators
- Notification of contract termination (fixed-term and denunciation)
- Request an inspection or contact ACT
- Labor law library, news, campaigns, and videos
- Store locator using Google Maps
- Hydration and break reminders for worker wellbeing
- Animated UI for a lighter, more human experience
The app was developed using Flutter for a unified experience across iOS and Android. The backend runs on Node.js, powered by Google Cloud Functions and Firebase (NoSQL) for secure, scalable performance. Content and data are managed through Firepanel CMS, with full admin control. Integration with SharePoint ensures all form submissions are received directly by ACT’s inspection teams.
